What Am I Tasting? – Fruit
It can be hard to determine what you’re actually tasting in a glass – even when you recognize the flavour but can’t pinpoint it. The best way to start this is to narrow down the category of fruit – is it citrusy? is it tropical? Then start to focus on the fruit in that category!
Here is a great little cheat sheet to use to help you refine your tasting palate and really start identifying those fruity notes in the glass!
Citrus Fruit – Lemon, Lime, Tangerine, Orange, Grapefruit
Black Fruit – Blackberry, Blackcurrant, Bramble, Blueberry, Black Cherry, Cassis, Plum
Red Fruit – Raspberry, Strawberry, Red currant, Cranberry, Cherry, Pomegranate
Green Fruit – Pear, Green Apple, Red Apple, Gooseberry
Stone Fruit – Apricot, Peach, Nectarine
Tropical Fruit – Banana, Pineapple, Kiwi, Guava, Papaya, Coconut, Lychee, Passionfruit, Mango
Melon – Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Horned Melon, Honey Dew
Dried Fruit – Fig, Prune, Raisin, Date, Jam, Baked, Stewed, Cooked
